Parents Empowering Parents (PEP) Society is seeking passionate and community-minded individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors.
PEP Society is a registered Alberta charity that empowers families impacted by a loved one's addiction through professionally facilitated education, evidence-informed tools, and compassionate peer support. Every day, we help families move from chaos to calm, misunderstanding to knowledge, and hopelessness to hope.
As our organization continues to grow across Alberta, we are looking for experienced leaders who are committed to strong governance and making a meaningful impact in their communities.
Priority Skills and Experience
As part of our ongoing board renewal, we are looking to strengthen the Board's collective expertise across several key areas. While legal expertise is currently a priority, we also welcome applications from individuals with experience in:
- Legal
- Governance
- Finance and Accounting
- Human Resources
- Government Relations and Public Policy
- Marketing and Communications
- Fundraising and Grant Writing
- Technology and Data Management
- Risk Management
- Strategic Planning
We also value lived experience supporting a family member affected by addiction, although this is not a requirement for Board service.
Board Responsibilities
As a Board Director, you will:
- Provide strategic leadership and governance oversight.
- Help guide the organization's mission, vision, and strategic direction.
- Review financial performance and support sound fiscal stewardship.
- Participate in Board and committee meetings.
- Support organizational sustainability, fundraising, and community engagement.
- Serve as an ambassador for PEP Society throughout Alberta.
Commitment
- Approximately 6–8 volunteer hours per month.
- Monthly Board meetings and committee participation.
- Two-year volunteer term with the opportunity for renewal.

Role Overview:
Position: Family Recovery Facilitator
Schedule: Part-time, evening shifts on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Environment: Both virtual and in-person meetings.
Locations: In-person meetings are held in Sherwood Park, St. Albert, and South Edmonton, as well as virtual meetings.
Additional Commitments: Participate in team meetings every two months (during the evenings or Saturday mornings) and engage in periodic project work. Be prepared to cover additional shifts as needed.
What You'll Do:
Create and deliver tailored educational content
Facilitate positive group dynamics
Collaborate with a dedicated team
Engage and support participants
Contribute to continuous team improvement
Document and report progress
What You Bring:
Experience: 2-5 years minimum in group facilitation, addiction recovery, and working with families.
Knowledge: Understanding of addiction and its impact on families, familiarity with family systems.
Skills: Exceptional group facilitation skills, adaptability to varying group dynamics, and technical proficiency for virtual meetings.
Attributes: Compassionate, creative, team-oriented, and driven by a growth mindset.
